Inspired by the rich cultural history of Rome, the deep reds, oranges, and browns of the varnish reflect the great Italian heritage of the violin and its many historical connections to Germany. A notable example is David Tecchler, the German-born, early 18th century violinmaker, a contemporary of Strad and Guarneri, who trained in Rome and worked there making concert-quality instruments still used by soloists today. This Gewa model pays tribute to these cultural ties with a textured antique finish, select spruce, Bosnian sycamore maple, and careful German craftsmanship. The tone is powerful and vibrant, a wonderful match for musicians who appreciate European history. Fitted with ebony pegs and endbutton, French style ebony tailpiece, Despiau "B" level French bridge, and Guarneri model ebony chinrest, Larsen Virtuoso strings. 4/4 only.
